Though 2001: A Space Odyssey, passed us by, 2001 is a historical turning point. 2001 see the humiliating eclipse of the self-proclaimed lone super power. Surprisingly, American decline began in 1991. Greece-Rome, Portugal-Spain, France-Britain and USSR-USA, when one global power retire, its rival also inevitably fade out.
After Vajpayee and Sonia arrived at the helm eight years ago, America, Russia, EU and Japan treat us a proud equal. Soon, they will look up to us, a friendly superior. India’s moment has been arrived. We no more need Big-6, G-9 or OECD-31 titles. We will be the Big One!
India will be the richest, mightiest nation on earth by 2017-25. To calculate real wealth, we should consider Indian money parked abroad, Indians’ total gold possession, our intellectual and natural wealth, military power, scientific and technological edge and liberty.
Recently, American, Russian delegations were in Delhi on the same day. They need us more than we need them to weigh down the balance against China. America and Russia choose a graceful exit. America pass India the democratic baton they inherit from the British.
To raise beyond regional power status India should shed her pessimistic mindset and experiment with innovative, unique approaches. To become real super power we have to solve some external and internal problems our own way.
Good-by dogma. I say India should jump the gun! Follow or catching up programs won’t give us big league card!
Import Russian coaches or export Indian sports stars to Russia or Cuba. Do whatever it takes. We should have seventeen gold medals in 2008 Beijing Olympics and fifty in 2016 Nainital Olympics. Despite Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh, why we still don’t have a world class winter Olympics team? China has one.
Though many doubted my dreams are too big and farfetched, I had confidence over Indian ascendancy. So I complied my dreams into New Super Power-2001 and Economic Blueprint-1996 to give New Delhi. You know, author is far faraway from feature writer. Tolstoy spent fourteen arduous years on War and Peace.
India is the foremost, free investment haven. Foreigners can withdraw their money whenever they please in sharp contrast to China. Enron cheated us. Yes. But it is no more. Coca-Cola played dirty tricks against India. But India will get the upper hand. India has the capability to ride over terrorism, disasters or even prolonged war. India is more liberal than USA. American liberalism often stop by their borders. Will America tolerate a Cuban sponsored attack on their Capitol Hill as India did on December 13? I doubt it. To American’s credit, there weren’t widespread slaughter of innocents after 9/11 as India witnessed in 1984 and 2002. But America has her 1992 Los Angeles race riots. Against our three-year long Emergency, America has Edgar Hoover’s three-decade long dictatorship. America bring high profile Sikh killer to speedy trial.
After the 9/11 terrorist strike, Americans mostly ignored our unconditional support and goodwill. Cunning Pak General played his cards shrewdly. I have another suggestion. Smaller democracies, Australia, Italy and Holland are facing international terror. We should lend them security experts. They will grateful. Also India’s clout and global stature will raise.
Many Indian defense specialists are worried about opening of prestigious Jungle Warfare Training School, Mizoram and High Altitude warfare Training School, Kashmir, to Americans. As they used ‘China Card’ against the USSR for two decades (1971-91), America now want to use “India Card” to contain China.
Don’t worry. America is a diminishing power. They lost their super power status. America is only a major power like Russia, China and India. She overextend herself in her war against Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria, North Korea, Cuba and Al Qeda.
To enhance our global reach, India should invest fifty billion rupees in 165 Countries. We should send advisors, teachers, doctors, nurses, management experts, scientists, engineers and artists to 185 countries. And, defense experts, counter terrorist specialists and military officers to 25 countries. Our tri-service theater command must expand to Pacific and Atlantic with 14,500 planes, 1500 ships and 10,200,000 soldiers. USSR-USA wielded two percent of her population under compulsory military service. So India has every right to mobilize one percent of her population voluntarily for her global power status. We developed Gnat before super powers. We should develop affordable, reliable, expendable defense. We should indigenously develop a nuclear submarine, Nakram.
America is our friend in need, Eg. 1962 and 1994. But we need 15, 000-km range missiles for an altogether different matter. Chinese terrorists in US may present India with a Day Before Midnight nightmare. Tin pot dictators may rise in the Americas with ICBMs and hostility to India. In Total War 2006 (Non Fiction), USA destroy Israeli second strike capability. Their ally!
Dictatorships pooh poohed our liberal policy. But we got the last laugh. Ignoring our domestic hypocrites’ sermons, we imported western culture. Yes. But in due course, we export Indian culture around the world. In the global stage, everything is two-way. Had we closed our doors to the west like dictatorships, we too would have remained an unknown culture.
Thanks to our progressive, liberal leadership and our western pals, Indian fashion, films, music and society is popular in all continents. See ‘Fusion’ – 1999. Compare this with China. Except overseas Chinese, who need Chinese propaganda.
Many experts say cheap rupee will make India paradise. No no! cheap Asian countries have cheaper currencies. Let us make rupee powerful. Then everything will fall into place. With weak rupee we will remain cheap and struggling. Can’t we make high profile Indian versions of BMW, Play Boy, Grundig, Lear Jet and Rollce Royce?
Yes, we can. Deepak Kanegaonkar successfully sell his high profile Urvashi perfume in high end French shops. He is an unacknowledged ambassador to ‘Made in India? Label. Faud Lokhandwala’s seventeen fancy toilets in Delhi give western cities a run for their money. We should write many such success stories in India. India certainly come very far.
Indian media often place India’s plus points on page six and exaggerate riots, disasters, terrorism, scams, crooks, scandals and mega crimes on page one.
In contrast, National Geographic did many fair, balanced cover stories on India. I sent my ‘India: The Other side’ and ‘Democratic Edge’ to many influential Westerners.
I cheer Sushama Swaraj’s bold green flag to foreign media. She ignore swadesi hypocrites’ war cry. Giving 360-Rs Popular Science’ 80-Rs Indian reprint to Indians is a fine gesture. Eleven years ago a Bombay rag warned STAR TV will destroy India. But on the fateful day of parliament attack, we realize STAR News is a credible PR machine. But I regret Sushamaji’s ban of beautiful jeans promotion, wasting AIR’s foreign language experts on an obscene witch hunt, arm twisting Fashion TV and crack down on sex chat lines. It will tempt Mecca and Islambad. Minister is misguided.
Our disastrous eleven year long ‘Cheap India” campaign out lived its purpose. So flag off a Great India program on the next independence day.
Fifty rupees against on dollar is an artificial contradiction we carried for too long.
Let us make rupee strong in the following pattern.
January 2007 : US$ 1 = 18.43 Rs
December 2010 : US$ 1 = 5.41 Rs
January 2017 : US$ 1 = 0.54 Rs
December 2025 : US$ 1 = 0.20 Rs
By 2017 – 25 India can be a 75-125 trillion dollar economy with clear, motivated policies.
America played cold war against the Russians mainly in Europe. We will play ‘Great Game’ against the Chinese first in Far East, West East, Oceania and Africa. Secondly in Europe and last theater will be Americas.
To cure Death of the West – Patrick Buchanan, we will settle seven crore Indians in Cananda, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Kazakhstan and Russia. Three thousand years ago adventurous Keralites settled in British Isles.
Russian Far East’s shrinking one crore inhabitants apprehensively look beyond their border at fifteen crore greedy Chinese. Already Russia has 30 lakhs illegal Chinese aliens. As a first move, we can send 1.5 crore Indians to Siberia from UP, Himachal Pradesh, Kasmir and Moonnar. In exchange, India will employ 15 lakhs Russians in India. Twenty Centuries ago our ancestors came to India from Russia. So this reverse flow is okay.
Russian technology far superior to American, Japanese and German ones are available at lesser cost. GPS, scanners, software, night sight, medicine and so on. But they are unknown. Indian private sector must fuse their marketing, managerial talents with Russian brains. Then we will see wonders. Indian farmers can turn Siberia an agricultural paradise.
Rudyard Kipling’s adge has been reversed. It is now brown man’s burden to project his former Sahibs. Ours was the largest voluntary force in world war two. We heroically fought all over the world. British shed blood for us in Northeast.
Two lakhs Anglo Indians in Australia will proclaim their Indian roots they conveniently forget for decades. In Khabhi Khushi Khabhi Gum whites raise to Indian anthem. Inviting fifty thousand Russian Jews to India will enhance our cultural diversity and religious spectrum.
West will acknowledge our ascendancy. Asia won’t. That is normal. In 1962 China war and 1994 plague outbreak we experience this. Except Canada, American eyes were fixed on Europe. Rather than Americas. Likewise, except Japan, Indian focus will be mainly on Europe and America. In culture, language, system, values and democracy, India is European country!

In space, oceans, general staff, computers and frontier technologies, we are light years ahead of China. And our lead is increasing. Many technologies we possess are available only in Russia and America. Moreover we have veteran China hands, George Fernandes and Arun Singh, in Delhi.
Doomsday scenario I just imagined is our last resort option. Yes, we will cooperate with China and USA did with USSR. We will trade with them and forget and play with them to an extent. But we will be very naive to trust them and forget 1962. For about three decades China aim nuclear missiles at American, Russian and Indian population, industrial centers.
If our frontier bases destroyed in a crippling Chinese preemptive strike, don’t worry. We will use our superhighways as 2000- km long runways. For giant transport planes and refuellers, our army engineer corps can turn paddy, wheat fields into airbases in 24 hours. Our long range strategic nuclear bombers will take off from all over the country. None can bomb our entire superhighways. We will hide our core bomber wings in underground, submarines and jungle bunkers. For helicopters and refueling trucks to arrive easily our 300-feet wide superhighways should have 50- feet wide borders on either side. Sides should be free from electric, phone posts and cables. Otherwise our pilots will have a tough time to land and take off. Huge refuellers’ and transport planes’ wide wings will be clipped off by this cables. So ran all cables through underground.
We will adopt, update and modify Marshal Nikolai Ogarkov’s Third World War plans. We will use deep inner strikes, commandos, air floating missile plat forms and aggressive tactics against Chinese in the next conflict. We will exploit Chinese irrational phobia by utilizing Chinese I’ching book against them in a psychological war. Instead of America’s fragile, vulnerable space based missile defense system, we should install the affordable, land based Russian antiballistic missile defense system around our cities.
Some Indian intellectuals urge India to accept a Nepal- grade role and satisfy China. They urge India to give Arunachal Pradesh to China to avoid Chinese wrath. But aggressors never stop with single offerings. They will ask for more. After they swallowed Tibet, they bit off Aksai Chin. Only by Russian intervention Mongolia escaped Chinese embrace.
We need far more Chinese scholars, studies, and institutes. Induction of Mr. C. V. Ranganathan into National Security council is a fresh beginning. NSC should have more young intellectual, artistic and creative talent
America has clear double standards about terror against India and terror against America. Only Russia, France, and Israel is sympathetic to Indian cause.
But Israel is overfriendly to China. They gift sensitive US technology to China and taunt even America. Little Israel or even Russia should not be allowed to hijack Indian policy.
Many Israelis, including former security chief question Israeli brutality on Palestinians. Unlike opportunistic Arabs, Palestinians are respected. Russian have more checks and balances on their antiterrorist forces fighting in Chechnya and Dagestan.
When freed from head quarter’s controls, military, intelligence officials may raise their own fiefdoms, parallel economy, terror squads and may stage even terrorist strikes. Tremendous psychological pressure cause troops to attack their superiors and drift towards the other side. This happened in Soviet occupied Afghanistan. Now we see the same pattern emerging in Kashmir.
A, more dangerous scenario is in the making. Kashmir will get international dimension. China very much like to engage India in proxy wars to prevent India from attaining global power status.
Already ‘War Against India’ has been hijacked from Kashmiris first by Pakistan. Later, Pakistan too lose control to International Jehad. Indian side can be infiltrated by Israelis, Russians and west. Add to this Ghodra-Ayodhya fuel, we have terrible nightmare at our hands. India may become the vast arena of East fight West ideological struggle. Or, Muslim against Hindu, Christian holy war. Then New Delhi will lose grip on the situation. We emerging great power should solve this problem fast and efficiently.
It’s high time to introduce more sophisticated and tactics into our 14-year long Kashmir Campaign. First allow Hurriyat moderates power in a free, fair election. Then try Snow Handshake, the third Manimala formula.
Snow Handshake: Indian, Pak Kashmirs merged into one. Its defense, finance and foreign affairs will be managed jointly by the respective Indo-Pak secretaries, Kasmiris can travel to India and Pakistan without documents. Kashmir will be open to both Indians and Pakistanis. But to move beyond Kashmir, they need passports. But no visa. This will lead to eventual Indo-Pak reunification. Afterwards they can extend hand to Bangladesh.
Of course, Pakistan and Bangladesh should accept Indian democratic, secular policy. Then we will try to create ‘Great Indian Sphere’ comprising Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Afganistan. We then have Delhi-Moscow trans European superhighway, rail road and India-Iran, Oman fuel, gas pipelines.
Now let us weigh military option against glory, martyrdom and paradise. But the veteran leaders control operations against India safely from Pakistan and elsewhere.
India call Pakistani nuclear bluff. Indian forces pour into PoK. Neutralize and kidnap terrorist high command. Bomb out terrorist camps. We brief our officers to minimize civilian casualties (or collateral damage in Rumsfield speak). Then Indian troops pull back. After fair trail we execute, sentence terrorist masterminds. Mission took seventy two hours. International terror realize Chinese, Pak nuclear umbrella won’t help them against determined India. India send a strong, confident message to the world.
We then seal our border with electrified, barbed wire, motion sensors, flood lights and dog patrols. Armor clad gun ships hover on the Indian side in a round the clock vigil. Terrorist problem solved. No more innocent lives lost.
Hindustani Dunya: USSR was America’s equal and Japan was a series financial, technological rival. But they couldn’t overtake America for an altogether different matter. America had English, Hollywood, John Grisham, Michael Jackson and Micky Mouse. Also English was easy to learn. Compare to USSR and Japan, America had a big buddy image around the world.
Here, India hold the trump card over China. Chinese remind the West China is the center of earth. They brag about their racial, cultural superiority. But world know China is neither. Small countries are apprehensive about Chinese care. In contrast India’s growing power and clout is welcomed by the entire free world.
Now let us make Indian culture’s global reach our more powerful. Indian books, films, music should grow beyond NRI populations. French was the clear equal of English. But they insisted on linguistic purity and rigidity. Impossible for common, non-French speakers. But English is constantly picking up words from Hindi and even Malayalam. English is changing, adapting and flexible. Also many versions of English coexist. French confined to pockets.
English is no more a foreign language to us. We contribute to the richness of English. India can have 50 crore English speakers. To reinforce our global Internet dominance and integrate Indian language, Indian language can adopt English alphabet and keyboard. Our writing skills are okay. Speaking isn’t. We need a crash course in English fluency to utilize hospitality, tourism, computer, content, web, education and entertainment fields. We have better, far creditable Outlook and India Today against Time and Newsweek. But why don’t the former have 20 million non-Indian readers? We have to built hype around Indian brands.
India should produce 1.200 English films, and 25,000 English books and 15, 000 magazines by year 2010. India should write her own script. We should implement ambitious, vast plans to become a super power.
Project LS-9 envision to give 80% Indians the best of these countries: America, Russia, Japan, Germany, France, Sweden, Finland, Italy and UK. Until pollution free technologies become cheaper and common, I won’t promote Rs 10.000 Cars. We resisted America’s second grade cell phone system and embraced top notch European technology. 80% literacy and below poverty line 15% and these price levels by 2005.

3 decades ago an Indian electronics journal sabotaged Philips’ color TV project. India lost an opportunity to become would’s largest CTV maker by 1985. Now Philips’ prevent Japanese, American obsolence peddling. Also when Philips India surpass the Dutch parent in sales, personnel and R & D it is no more a foreign company!
I am all for the promotion of VoD (Viedo on Demand) and FTH (Fiber to the Home). But common man should have adequate, affordable communication, transportation, employment safety net, basic heath and education facilities.
Like America, we should orient our focus on middle class. Super rich and VIPs don’t need our policies or programs. Indian toys, mags, books, DVDs and CDs and handicrafts are very much in demand in the Gulf. Allow ordinary Indians to send them to Gulf gifts. This will boost ‘Made in India’ label and Indian trade account surplus. For this we should need cheap, reliable, parcel, ship, air service. Also give Indian Customs a people friendly face like their German counterparts.
Small steps go a long way to make India a prosperous country. Yes, Indian MNCs are necessary. But only small companies can innovate and prove Indian mettle in the developed world.
Germany’s small firms, employing 25-300 people, truly make Germany world class. However, our outdated SSI reservation can go.
We should preserve Indian rural life. Post modern technologies give villages better life without affecting village life. Solar lights, wireless phone, microhydel projects, wind mills, clay mixed concrete roads, sanitation, urns and so on. Tourists too like unpolluted rural life.
No metropolis can equal bush-clad narrow lanes criss crossing the village, mini ponds, frogs, sarpakavu, mini temples, washer women, chirping sparrows on the mangroves, cicadas, swaying reeds over streams, rising sun’s slow piercing of pure, virgin mist in the morning, bantams’ challenging calls, mallards’ chasing of elusive fish and freshly ploughed earth’s tantalizing aroma!
Japan’s rampant urbanization and concrete cover cause acute drainage and water shortage problems. Germany preserve her streams, ponds, lakes and rural heritage. They even have forest clad cities, tree covered roads and bicycles and pedestrian only roads! Eg. Munich.
We can safely ignore international rating agencies and western think tanks. Enron still glorify Fortune – 500-2002! They wrote off India till 1997 in favor of their blue eyed boys, Asian Dictatorships. But Asian meltdown made them world’s laughing stock.
They blown China out of Proportion. But let us go beyond this charade. China get 47 billion FDI against India’s 3 billion. Too bad? Eh?
Nope. Chinese triads and murderous regime siphon off and recycle their dirty money through Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. Discount this laundering, Chinese FDI diminish to 8 billion. If we take out overseas Chinese, Chinese FDI and FII is predatory and destabilizing. Only super powers can tame, control and utilize it effectively. Eg. America.
In stark contrast to China, India attract FDI from western democracies. NRIs have a very little role. Indian utilization of FDI, productivity, efficiency, Rol and management is far ahead of China. See STAR TV’s India, China experience.
Same to tourist arrivals. Huge Chinese figures are really ethnic Chinese from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao and west. But India is sought after by westerners.
But never underestimate our rival. China use its brute force to arm twist anyone. China forced west to forget Tianenmanen, freedom and human rights. When Chinese leaders arrive in Washington DC, they exude confidence bordering on arrogance. They advise America to accept Chinese dominance and superior ways. They declare they will vanquish the west.
But Indian netas in western capitals are shrill, silly and pathetic. They how1 Pakistan will swallow India, western culture pollute Indian values, Jeans is bad to India, Hollywood is dad and so on. This amateur performance cost India dearly. West mistook India as a third grade power who fear even Pakistan and friendly west.
India need intellectually powerful leaders, presentation and policy. None above major general, deputy minister and assistant secretary should talk about Pakistan!
Till recently, our political leadership pooh poohed art, literature, humanities, clean, green cities and democracy. Now fortunately, it is changing for the better. I am familiar with Gandhiji’s and Nehru’s writing, while reading S Radakrishnan’s Bhagavadgita (1948) recently, I realized our founding fathers was intellectual giants.
Go to China. They have no fear about western dress, culture or power. They use western tools to destroy West.
At the end of the day, we with dismay see China become more open, tolerant and free. While India become more totalitarian and repressive. Indians try to destroy our inherent English base. China try to make crores of English speakers before 2008 Olympics. They increasingly lift bans on artistic works. India cry for more silly bans. China woo tourists with world class roads, airports, streets and efficient bureaucracy. While Indian ones resemble Africa. Will we see a free, Prosperous China and poor, autocratic India by 2020? It is the greatest disaster awaiting India.
NRIs should be reigned in. We efficiently deal with George Bush, Vladimir Putin, John Paul II and Bill gates. Then why should we court some novae rich NRIs? We have our Tatas and Premjis. Dual citizenship isn’t wise. India and America is now great friends. But if they attack each other tomorrow, whom will an Indo-American dual citizen will serve?
We won’t allow few chauvinistic NRIs to dicate to one billion Indians. After Rajiv assassination, massive NRI withdrawals threw us to near bankruptcy.
Our founding fathers’ dream has been achieved. Weak classes gain status, equality and economic safety. So reservation should be phased down in increasing steps to 10% by 2015.

Even then merit should be favored. Defense, science, civil service and management should be exempt from reservation. In absence of suitable candidates vacancies will go to others.
VHP leaders, Delhi should Imam and Cardinal of Cochin must respect India’s democratic secular laws. Even Jesus Christ and Sri. Buddha obeyed man made rules.
New Delhi should impound the disputed land in Ayodhya. Give 40% to Hindu Temple and 20% for Mosque. But, with an expense ceiling of Rs. 4 and 2 crores respectively. Otherwise religious crooks will exploit naïve believers. On the remaining land we can build super specialty hospital, museum, library, planetarium, garden, cultural and heritage centers, ancient and traditional knowledge center, Din Ilahi school and Bahai type all religious temple. Then:
Religious Blur: Reserve ten parliament seats (rotational) for other religions. In this way, Hindus can’t contest the four Hindu majority seats in the reserves term. Muslims, Christians, Sikhs etc. can. Three Muslim majority seats will be open to non-Muslims only. Two Christian seats will be closed to Christians. Lone Sikh seat will be accessible only to non-Sikhs.
This will neutralize religious strangle hold, distrust and communal tensions. Religions will be forced to send their most decent, amiable representatives to these ten seats. In 1995 A.K. Antony defeated his Muslim rival in a Muslim majority seats by his personality. Religious Blur will make us a true secular meritocracy.
Had Vajpayee sacked Narendra Modi, Muslims would have suffered more. When Christians persecuted in Gujarat, there was huge uproar. Yes. Bad Muslims exist. But what about thousand of innocent Muslims. Isn’t there bad Hindus, Christians and Sikhs?
George Bush Sr and Kennedy didn’t hesitate to sent federal troops to troubled areas. To prevent future Godhras we should have a Federal Administrator’s post with overriding, compelling powers with two safe guards. PM should consult opposition leader. Current Yes/No, black/white oriented education burn out students. We have to promote Montissori type pupil-friendly curriculum and freed very young students from heavy workload. However, even a 3-year old can learn 3 languages, basic arithmetic, reading, writing and drawing skills through fun. Very early introduction to languages will give students head start and edge. Such a system will create more policy planners, decision makers and strategists.
When scientists, doctors, engineers and MBAs enter civil services it’s terrible national waste. We spent precious national resources on them for an altogether different national service. So reserve civil services for humanities , history, literature and commerce graduates. We can always recruit outstanding individuals into advisory boards.

India came very far. We also progressed without sacrificing liberty and rule of law. As we progress further, we should introduce more freedom. International agencies comparing India with Liechtenstein can rate only thirty thousand Indians!
India effortlessly shrug off china-Mecca-Vatican’s two-decade long efforts to sterilize her society, culture and media. AIDS, Anthrax and SARS is nothing to us.
Why can’t we turn foreign terrorists with money, women, wine or porn and then reexport them to rouge regimes. Woman dance directors make world class porn!
India should limit her defense purchase to Russia, Sweden and South Africa. Our software engineers should integrate these systems into a seamless war plan. Defense purchase from the US and Israel is an altogether different matter. Dependence on incompatible British, American, Russian, French and Canadian weapons lead partially to our defeat in 1962 China war.
‘Clean India’five-year plan should be launched to met or exceed Scandinavian standards. Every year, cleanest Indian cities, villages and towns should be given additional central funds. Civil Servants must be forced to keep their respective reas clean, green, neat and beautiful.
If we continuously peg rupee to dollar well past the need, rupee will sink with dollar. Trillion dollar defense buildup, costly globocop campaigns, corporate failures, diminishing techno lead and waste will steadily erode dollar.
Rupee is fine currency. Allow full float. It will find its deserved, preeminent position among global currencies.
Instead of following west, especially America, India should take lead. We should be the modern intellectual, financial, technological and liberal capital of Earth. Free world should rally behind us.
I raise my hand in salute to India’s progressive march through centuries to the next millennium towards Pax Indian!
